Burbot Bash
Update: May 30, 2013
There is no longer a Burbot Bash. its
time has come to and end. But you're welcome to visit days gone by while
it lasted in Escanaba, Michigan
The last known Burbot Bash
began at 10 AM on the 25th of February 2006.
UPDATE: February 23, 2008
I'm not even sure this event even takes place anymore. I can't find a single
link to the event in 2008, anywhere. It's like so many other
Upper Peninsula Events that take place. They promote it with a website,
the event takes place and then it disappears. Another perfect example of this
is the Yoop's Classic Outhouse Race... good fortune for the UPCOR is everyone
else promotes it for them... talk about a bunch of cheapskates.
The Burbot Bash URL (web address) to the event organizers website
(upwoodsnwater.com) doesn't even exist, and no one else is promoting the event.
So here I am, left a with Yooper Stupid Burbot Bash page, with no event. Rather
than throw this page into cyber space, I think I'll keep it around for awhile
just to see how many people visit it.
None the less, read further on to find out what this event was in its day.
Burbot Bash of 2006
We will be fishing off the Terrace Motel. For those of you that don't know where
it is, it's between Eskie and Gladstone. If your heading North out of Escanaba,
it's on the right hand side. There's a big sign out in front of it. If you hit
the Bait Shop or the Gladstone Shell station, you've gone too far. Oh yeah, and
get your bait from Chris' (Bait Shop Guy) store
Everyone will need to stop in at the Terrace and pick up a launch sticker. They
are 2 bucks I think. Head straight off the launch, look for a bunch of
portable shanties and snowmobiles/quads grouped together. I'll try to have the
UPWW flag flying as well. I would suggest using a machine to get out rather than
a truck. If you don't have a snowmobile/quad, you can call my cell and we will
run to the launch and pick you up. It's 906.869.9040.
As far as gear: I'd recommend bringing at 2 tip ups and 1 jigging pole. On the
tip ups, a treble hook and floro leader are suggested. Bring lots of
weight to get it down, otherwise it'd take a long time to drop a shiner 50 feet.
On the jigging pole, a buckshot Glo spoon tipped with a minnow head is the
ticket. If you don't have one, stop in and Chris (or his staff) will hook you
up. Dusk is the best burb time, and we'll have a lot of tip ups out. Make SURE
your name is on your tip ups. Tip up lights might be a good idea as well if you
plan on staying through prime time. Mid sized shiners have been the ticket in
the past.
We will have a cleaning station set up on the tailgate of my truck. Bring some
baggies and we'll show the burbot noobs how to clean the ugly buggers.
I will supply brats and my homemade BBQ beef sandwiches for lunch. If you want
to bring "ice" food to pass around (summer sausage, chips, etc) your
more than welcome to, but don't feel obligated. I will have enough Homebrew
American Ale (given carbonation times go as usual) for everyone to have a beer
or two- if you want more beer than that, bring your own additional brews. ID's
will be checked if your a pup.
I know the regular crew is pumped to get out there and fish. We should have good
fishing, and we will for sure have allot of fun! See you there!
